Wilco – Sky Blue Sky
Between Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born and their amazing work with Billy Bragg on the Woody Guthrie material I can safely say that Wilco are one of my favourite bands. So quite where this appalling rubbish came from is an utter fucking mystery.
Basically this album is an utterly rotten, stodgy morass of light prog. It’s actually embarrassing to have on the stereo. All of the lightness of touch from Ghost has completely vanished and in its place is a sort of Thin Lizzy plays the legends of dadrock at a nice gentle pace so as not to offend the vicar.
Now, Wilco aren’t always the most immediately accessible of bands, so if I change my mind on this I promise to come back and write a big retraction and humble apology. I sincerely doubt it though. What the fuck has happened to them I have no idea because honestly, this really is a dreadful album. Straight. In. The. Bin.

Amen….’bout time you started thinking straight, Mr. Toad. Tweedy is a hack who surrounds himself with musicians far more talented than he (Jay Farrar, Jay Bennett), then drives them away due to “creative differences”.
Spend your money on the new Son Volt instead. You’ll be glad you did.

I’m finding this one to be somewhat of a grower. Probably my least favorite Wilco album by far, but it’s certainly elevated itself above ‘rubbish’ status with a few listens. Still, it’s not gonna push much else I’m lovin’ out of rotation.
Completely disagree with Terry, btw. Love Tweedy, think Son Volt is pretty boring. Saw Farrar solo once and it was dreadful.
Quite like ‘Impossible Germany’ -this album seems to have been all over the blogs of late, so much so it seems the entire album could be downloaded of just a couple of blogs. Haven’t heard whole thing yet, so will resolve judgement. Noticed that I am Fuel, you Are Friends seems to have posted a lot of rarities in the last week or so.

I don’t know if Jeff Tweedy is an arse – I’ve heard a couple of people say so, bt never seen anything myself to suggest it – but generally I think his music is brilliant. Really early Wilco I’m not quite into, but their last three albums have been fantastic.
I will give it a good few more listens, Rich, but I have tried a few times already and I’m not really feeling it.
