The Kingsbury Manx – Baby You’re a Dead Man

I always wonder how groups can have a largely undistinguished career and yet somehow produce one miraculously great song, only to promptly return behind the parapets whence they came. Or, to put it another way, how can a group of people capable of writing such a terrific track not be able to manage it again?

Are they any Kingsbury Manx fans out there who can disabuse me of this prejudice? I loved this song, bought the album, didn’t quite click with it, and that was the last I heard of them. Are they good? Are they still the same? Have they produced anything quite this excellent again?

Let’s all investigate together: here’s their website, go dig…

The Kingsbury Manx – Baby, You’re a Dead Man

[Disclaimer: I am actually on holiday at the moment, probably fucking up my brother's wedding by swearing too much in the best man's speech, so it's all a bit minimal at the moment.  Normal service will be resumed after we return on about the 25th July]

5 witty ripostes to The Kingsbury Manx – Baby You’re a Dead Man

  1. Chris B

I really like their latest, The Fast Rise and Fall of the South. A little more ethereal than this cut but a lovely, (mostly) quiet album.

Plus they’re from Chapel Hill! ;-)

  2. Dan Holway

Their self-titled debut and the aforementioned The Fast Rise and Fall of the South are their best albums as far as I am concerned.

  3. Matt

Their first two albums are class. Have you never heard ‘piss diaries’? Terrible name but a beautiful song.

  4. Matthew

Nope, not heard that either. Right, bollocks, time to investigate further.

  5. Mark

I agree with Matt above. Piss Diary is their best song – very Pale Blue Eyes but even better. Their first album is their classic – Pageant Square is another great track. In fact, I recently compiled a best of Kingsbury Manx and when they get it right, they get it very, very right.
