(The Real) Tuesday Weld – Last Words

Tuesday Weld

Prior to the release of his third album on the 28th August Stephen Coates, a.k.a. (The Real) Tuesday Weld, has released a wee teaser track entitled Last Words. It’s a bit of a departure from earlier stuff, being more of an easy, electro-tinged pop song where his previous work has largely been along the lines of breathy, crackling subversions of 60s lounge jazz.

The new album is going to be called The London Book of the Dead and the blurb promises more of what we’re used to already, but it would be no bad thing if he were to be shifting direction slightly, after two excellent albums in a broadly similar vein already. Either way, I am quietly looking forward to this, and for those of you who are equally keen, it can be pre-ordered here.

i love the track “last words.” the only other trtw song i’m familiar with is “(still) terminally ambivalent over you,” so i would certainly agree that the new song is quite a departure.

Well Stand By Your Man I threw on as a bit of a novelty, but Eternal Seduction of Eve is pretty classic TW as well. The new album insists it’s pretty straightforward fare, but it doesn’t sound like that to me either.

    this is some good stuff

Grumble. I don’t like the new song but loved the first two albums. This new one reminds me of the Postal Service.

It’s definitely not TW as we know it, but then, I don’t particularly want a new album just like the previous two. I already have them. It’s about time he poked about at something a bit different. Not that they weren’t excellent albums of course.
