The Three 4 Tens – Down the Way

Three 4 Tens

I nearly didn’t review this, but just enough of it caught my attention that I thought I might pass it on to you lovely fellows.

Basically they sound a little bit like a combination of the Kings of Leon and early 90s Britpop.  KoL meet Oasis perhaps?  Anyhow, as you do sometimes, I was about to dismiss it as being all bit standard Americana scruffy bluesy garage stuff that we’ve all heard plenty of times before, but there seems to be something subtle about most of the songs that I find myself liking.  And sometimes albums like these grow and grow on you until months later you realise you love it, so I thought I might just pop it up here and give it the chance to seep into your consciousnesses as well.

What was that thing, you ask?  That little thing that kept me coming back to these songs even when I thought I wasn’t all that keen on them?  Listen for the guitar.  In almost every song there is a really nicely turned guitar hook that’ll snag you – nothing too spectacular, you understand, but something definitely worth your while listening for.
