I suspect it may have been intentional on the part of Gerry and his cohorts, but they have captured the mood of the private-eye's voice-over to a classic film noir. The Pendulums produced more of a "What the fuck?!!" response; and respectively, I suspect that that may have also been precisely what they were going for. I liked Gerry Mitchell & Little Sparta.
