Bitches, Booze & eBay

Don’t y’all hate it when yo bee-yatch is disobedient? Well actually no, I love it. If the old mare wasn’t stubborn as a mule there’s no chance I’d adore her with the devotion that I do.
But there are drawbacks to having a couple of fuckwits in the house, and one is here: drink and eBay. The other night we had one of our hugely romantic evenings where we get plastered, play records really loud and dance around the living room together, except this time Mrs. Toad got her hands on my eBay ID and bid £35 for a Glasvegas single.
Half the time this is no problem, you bid high and it goes for less than a tenner.
This time however, they were just the wrong kind of popular: popular enough that the bidding was driven up to just a fraction shy of our maximum, but not quite popular enough that some kindly obsessive might have saved us from our drunken folly. In the end we won it and, with postage, ended up paying nearly £37.
We checked on eBay the other day and that self same single is now available for £18 on Buy It Now. So we may be fannies, we may have been fleeced and there may be an eBay seller sniggering at our silliness somewhere in the UK, but fuck it who cares. Tonight we are listening to Glasvegas playing Be My Baby of all things and grinning at each other in that sort of a way that two idiots do when they know they’ve found a kindred spirit.
An equally stupid kindred spirit, but a kindred spirit nonetheless.
Glasvegas – Be My Baby

That’s just nuts! I see that the Daddy’s Gone 7 inch I bought that time we went to Rough Trade is fetching pretty money now too. Shall I sell it? oooh…
Wishing I had bought that My Own Cheating Heart 7 now. Then again, I’ve got a few 7s that are worth a lot, but never sell them.
Nah, why would you sell it. The hysteria will die down in a little while and the silly price for Square Go should come down. Depending on how well the debut album goes down of course…
Clearly, you don’t need to be told this, but that gal’s a keeper! I trust you wake up every morning, look over and think “I’m a lucky bastard”.
Mentok, I think you may be onto something there. She was even the one who insisted I put the word bitches in the title of the post.
I think it’s funny that you spent so much on a single that you’ve shared for free! Mrs. Toad is indeed a winner.
Well I really don’t think that vinyl buyers are swayed one way or another by free copies of files on the internet. CD buyers perhaps, or even legitimate downloaders, but your average vinyl collector probably would either buy the thing anyway or would just never buy it in the first place.
I don’t even know if this is available as a download anywhere. Maybe it is and I’m just eating into their sales, but given they’ve sold out of the vinyl anyway, hence the need to rush to eBay, they should be happy in any case, I’d have thought.
Oh, I don’t mean that posting it will prevent copies of it from being sold, just that I almost feel terrible downloading the song knowing how much you’ve gone through the trouble of paying for it. If anything, I feel cheap!
this is a very, very hard song to cover well… and jeezo they get it spot on. thanks for sharing, you lovely fools you.x
That, China, is because you ar… NO! What I meant was, don’t worry about it – surely that’s the point? Having cool stuff so that when your friends come round you can play them good tunes. Just that most of my friends happen to be in teh internetz.
Nice job, eh Col? I like it a lot. There style and the structure of their songs don’t change much, but I really like what they do.

As I can testify to all too well….
But its a great feeling when you do actually pick up something of a bargain on e-bay….although it is becoming more and more difficult.
