The Waiting Room Survives!

The Waiting Room

Well I didn’t appear in this particular episode of The Waiting Room, and somewhat amazingly the whole thing didn’t go instantly to the dogs, as you might have imagined.

In fact, DC has sent me a couple of excellent tracks to use in my traditional plug for the show seeing as I can’t do my usual ‘I nearly chose these’ thing.

The first is by a group called Heathers who I’ve never heard of at all, but the real highlight for me was the Fleet Foxes song.  There’s been a fair bit of blog whispering about Fleet Foxes for quite a while now, and I’ve never quite got round to tracking them down and having a listen.  This, it seems, was a mistake.  Just listen below – what a fine song indeed.

You did too hear Fleet Foxes! I sent you their track “White Winter Hymnal” back in September. September! Miserable ingrate. I can just see you now, rolling your eyes dismissively as another missive from C&B pops through the ether (or aether, or whatever the hell it is). Fleet Foxes? Oh, lets just delete that one shall we? Couldn’t possibly be any good. Fleet Foxes indeed! Pshaw. Well I’ll never make that mistake again!

Ahem. Sorry. I’m feeling fragile. Male menopause, I fear.

Christ man, pull yourself together. It’s like running a creche, writing this thing is. You must have sent me a bum track, or I was just not in the right frame of mind. You have your own folder on my hard drive now. It’s titled ‘Assorted Internet Ments’.

Toad, the Heathers track is a demo (as are all theirs at present) but they’ve just cut the debut Long Player & that’ll be out shortly – they’re a couple of kids in scholl over in Ireland & I have to say their voices are fucking amaznig. Sisters they are, too. Probably twins, I forget just now. But I think they’ve got the smarts already at such an early age. They’ve already done a bit of touring & a ton of US gigs, there’s a massive US tour on its way (post-exams in June, bless) & I’ve snagged them for a session & an interview. Bloody brilliant, I think.

Fleet Foxes, yes, well. We have been banging on about them for some while now (as has Mr Cf+Bf), so it’s about time you caught on man. Check out Daytrotter for their latest session, which includes a lovely rendition of White Winter Hymnal.

Christ, I’m suffering today. Über hangover au go go, right now, & I have a day of pre-records planned out to cover my absence in June. Bleurgh…

*School, obviously, but probably in Scholls as well as they are that sweet.

It really doesn’t bear thinking about what else might be stored in your “Assorted Internet Ments” folder. For some reason the words “barnyard frenzy” come to mind.

Barnyard Frenzy the band? Are they any good?

Such an innocent lad. It’s touching, really.

It’s what he’s touching that has me reaching for the handset…
