I still don't think I've ever heard Newton Faulkner. Is there any reason why I would have heard Newton Faulkner at any point? From the context of these discussions I gather that he is "terribly proficient."

You know, this post inspired me to go back and listen to some of my late '80s guitar heroes, and one that really stands out is Frank Kearns, who played for the Irish group Cactus World News. There's this one tune they've got called State of Emergency on their 1986 album Urban Beaches where the guitar playing absolutely blows my mind.

"Yngwie Malmsteen; blessed with a name that sounds like one of his own guitar solos.."

I didn't make that up - read it somewhere - but it always makes me chuckle when I think of it..

Can we get back to how crap Newton Faulkner is compared to Angelo Bruschini now? God!..

i wholeheartedly support this post. i forgive you for the sins of yesterday.

i think Swagger is one of the great albums of all time. great to start the day with a healthy blast of wondernostalgia.

and the crazy polish dancer i've been keeping for such an occasion is glad of the exercise too.

Oh yes. I'll have these. I believe Jacket Hangs is the only Blue Aeroplanes song I've ever heard 'til now, but Anti-Pretty is a fucking scorcher. The guitar playing is really super on these. I know they're from Bristol, but they sound more like some of the great Kiwi pop bands from that time--Chills, Bats, Verlaines, etc. Just a pure pop sensibility. Had no idea they were this good.
