Toadcast #40 – The Birthcast

Hello people, more podcastenfun once again. Having done the Deathcast recently, I thought it might be nice to do the polar opposite – the Birthcast. This week’s podcast is all about the birth of Song, by Toad. I’ll tell you about how I started writing about music, how I discovered blogs, how I discovered that what I was writing was in fact a blog and how I ultimately ended up on Wordpress writing what you are now reading. r casually skimming over, depending on your bent.
It has also ended up being something of a 2004 retrospective, because that’s when this all started, however slowly, and that side of it has been nice. I had met Mrs. Toad by this point, and I was all excited, and despite the fact that my job was bollocks, living in London was great fun. I was on a narrowboat at Nine Elms Pier at this point, which was an amazingly brilliant place to live, and I used to cook myself kettle noodles because I couldn’t be arsed firing up the stove. I’d boil some water, throw it over some noodles and some stock and chuck in lots of fresh veg – bloody delicious.

Loving that Innocence Mission tune. Karen Peris has a super voice I think, but my wife hates it. Lakes of Canada is one of my favorite songs. And AMC as well? Blast from the past, that is. I was just listening to Everclear earlier today, a true classic, and Eitzel’s solo record West is quite good as well. You lived on a boat? Very Don Johnson. I’m also very fond of Static on the Radio. Don’t know if you’re aware, but that’s none other than Aimee Mann on harmony vocals.
Jim White is a guy who I’ve always want to hear more of, based almost solely on that song. It’s brilliant. It’s amazing because everyone I know loves that song, and so few people have actually heard anything else by him.
Toad’s boat was more Steptoe and Son than Miami Vice. I distinctly remember jumping out of bed one morning to find myself ankle deep in water. Closest I ever got to washing on it because the shower never worked.
Ah, Mr. Toad. This was a nice one. I’m split on the decision to shorten podcasts. It’s nice that you are gonna do them more often now, and sometimes I have to listen to it in parts to finish it, but at the same time I really enjoyed taking the time to sit down with tea and biscuits and whatnot to listen to it all the way through. And yeah, that’s the thing: Its really easy to put on lots of stuff in the mixtape, but its narrowing it down that’s the hard part. Is there any where I can get that live version of I haven’t Seen This Day Before?
You could try here, but hurry up. I’ll take it down in a day or two.

Nah, it’s html tags on Wordpress, not those square brackety ones. I just forgot the front part of the URL, but it’s fixed now.
Haha, Im a fool. Either way, I am amazed by the voice of Karen Peris. Oh my, such beautiful songs!
I have just gone and bought the Innocence Mission after listening to the podcast. It’s a beautiful song, so thanks for sharing it.
