Toadcast #46 – Sparrow & the Workshop Toad Session

Christ this has taken me ages. We recorded this in late August after myself and Mrs. Toad came back from the States, but the intervention of the End of the Road Festival and an unspeakable disaster with video tape has delayed this beyond the bounds of pretty much everyone’s patience. I eventually had to give up trying to extricate video from chewed tapes and make do with the video we actually had, which has been bloody frustrating.
As per usual we have the videos all posted either on the Toad Vimeo page (the best quality) and YouTube (more accessible). We also have pictures taken by both my friend Morgan, who is also the official Song, by Toad camerman, and Dylan as well. Dylan has all his pictures, including these, on his own sit Blueback Hotrod, and we’ve also uploaded them to the Song, by Toad Flickr page as well. So, firstly, here is the podcast, with the tracklisting at the bottom of the page:

[...] Don’t miss the Toad Session on Song, By Toad. [...]
been looking forward to this…..cheers matty boy
It’s taken me long enough, but I am really pleased with the results.
well worth the wait…good work.
‘In the Valley’ was a hit by welsh girlgroup, Anghared and the dangleberry’s…
very nice session though…..
its not often I’ll defend Toad rather than take the piss but since the poor sod has been up to 3am every night this week finishing this video, I think Dickie Jobbers and co can live with the typo for a bit till he gets home from some well earned RnR.
BTW – isn’t a welsh girlgroup better known as a flock of sheep?
Darling. Be nice.
Nice man, nice.
p.s. saw Broken Records last night – fucking astonishing. They’re tying for 1st place as best gig all weekend with Pete & The Pirates. Bit of a faux pas in the interview – I was so interview weary (it was my 6th in a row yesterday & was just after interviewing Little My, a 12 piece band) & was initially given Ian as the phone/name to arrange the thing with, therefore my head was FULL of names, I accidentally called Jamie Ian throughout the interview. Jamie was so gracious he didn’t mention it AND recorded ‘Hi This Is Ian & You’re Listening To The Waiting Room’ when I asked him to do a quick sweeper for me.
Ian revealed the cock up just as they were leaving for the night, with the words “No bother, Matthew will have a laugh about it I’m sure”. Some forensic editing is called for, methinks…
Hahaha – brilliant..
I have to admit I did wonder when you told me you’d done the interview with Ian, after I’d seen you leave The Rummer Tavern with Jamie.
Great night though.
Hilarious. That’s just priceless mate, well done.
I’m really glad you liked them. I can’t believe that’s the first time you’d seen them, but I suppose their touring has been mostly London and the festival circuit this year.
I just watched the Sparrow videos now – I didn’t have time to sit and watch them when I popped online briefly earlier today.
They are great – top marks to Matthew for salvaging such great stuff from Chewed-Tape Hell.
Although it’s a shame that Jill’s proclaimation that candy gives you constipation didn’t survive to make it to the finished product!
And full marks to Jill, Gregor and Nick too.. Really top performances, sounding great – especially considering the hangovers we all had that day!
Hi, it’s Jill. I was just signing in to say thanks again to Kate, Morgan, Dylan and you, Matthew, for doing this podcast for us. Thanks a million! We really apppreciate the support you are giving us. I’m looking forward to playing on Wednesday. We’re trying some new songs! I’ve written a love song. I guess I have some nice things to say about guys after all…..Thanks again for everything, xoxo Jill
ps. I’m glad you metioned the hangovers, Dylan….I was rockin’ on a sick boat that afternoon…..erm, did I actually say that thing about candy giving me constipation?…no wait, I remember that now….. yep, I did say that.
Charming … it all comes out on a toadcast, eh ?
Looking and sounding great you lot. As always I’m sure.
You guys rock !!!
Not if you’ve been eating candy, apparently, Morg.
Hi Jill, looking forward to it very much. I love this session actually – they are getting better every time, which is a nice sign. If I can do the next one without the bloody technical hitches I will be very happy indeed.

[...] This is a recommendation from Sparrow & the Workshop, albeit one I am finally latching onto properly something like six months after I was initally tipped off during their Toad Session. [...]
[...] Speaking of playing in living rooms, Matthew Song By Toad had Sparrow and the Workshop round to his to do exactly that. The excellent results can be enjoyed here. [...]
