I've listened to 100s of new albums ready for release & the vast majority of the wobbly end of the indie scale all pretty much follow this blueprint. Soft & introspective/bordering of woody Twee, then angular guitars with 80s faux-soul pop bass-lines & demented vocals. I love it. It's really good. I am not totally on board with some of the rockier moments, as I said, but they do throw the other stuff into pretty sharp relief so they work well in the context of the album.
