Toad on Fresh Air – Tuesday 12th May, 2009

It’s that time of the week once again. At 6.30pm, British Summer Time, myself and Dylan from Blueback Hotrod will be live on Fresh Air, Edinburgh’s student radio station. There will be no theme, no coherence and no real attempt to do anything more dynamic than just chatter about music, so please do tune in and listen to us blether.
Rather than emailing or (grrr) tweeting, I thought I might just leave this as an open thread for those who want to contribute, and I’ll add the playlist live as we go along.
Click the big ‘Listen Live’ button on this page to tune in, between 6.30pm and 8pm tonight.
01. The Bluetones – Glad to See You Back Again
02. James – Sound
03. Emily Scott – Pageant Queen

Cheers, see you next week at the same time.

Good to hear Blur and Gene being discussed, Olympian is a great debut album, ‘How Much For Love’ was the b-side to Haunted By You. B-sides collection ‘To see the lights’ was great.
Bluetones debut album was called Expecting To Fly.
Oh brilliant, thanks Ed. I loved To See the Lights, not least because it had all sorts off the pre-album singles, and live versions, because they were great live.
Thanks for mentioning 17 Seconds and 17 Seconds Records, too; sorry, was having urgent phone call, so only caught part of it, but much appreciated, as always.
The bit you didn’t catch was me saying you were shit
Er, I know I’m stalking you*, the Boo Radleys’ single ‘From the bench at Belvedere’ was an inbetween single in about September 1995; it came after the Wake up! LP but before the C’Mon Kids LP, which came out in 1996 (I think kids was a return to form). Kingsize was 1998, after which they split and Martin Carr went off to do his Brave Captain thingy…
* yes, ha ha, but at least i’m listening!
So I was almost right – just missed an inbetween album. What a carnival of ignorance this show is!
Martin Carr went off to do his Brave Captain thingy…
He’s now doing music under his own name & it’s fucking lovely. West Coast surf-country. He’s got this business idea thing where he’s asking people/fans to donate ££ towards the production of an album (I think he set a budget of £20,000 or something to be rasied in order to fund it) – & they get an album/a credit/whatever in return. He’s got about £5,000 so far (if I recall) & I view it like that time when people tried that odd pixel advertising thing where they sold space by the pixel on the front of the cover of the album & their space was used to advertise themselves or business or whatever. I think I’m remembering that right.
Not entirely sure if I think its ‘the way to go’, but it certainly means that the damn thing could take years to come out (or never at all), which is rightly frustrating. But I guess it gets people to his shows to fill the meantime.
good to see the astronauts getting some air time!
Yeah, I am pretty sure they think I hate them, which just isn’t the case. I will almost certainly write up their Gentle Invasion gig.
CTA ftw.
did anybody hear Broken Records on Marc Riley last night……..
CTA RMW
It’s here, if anyone wants to listen to it.
it was great….
hey….can you play this on your next podcast? Meursault – Hard On
Oooh,
Cheers for playing us Matthew. We really don’t think you hate us.
We think *everyone* hates us.
Because we’re paranoid and mental.
Or maybe that’s just me.
Shame I’m always at work while this is on. Bah.
