I recently mentioned on one of the many threads on this blog that Sparrow and the Workshop fuck me up in so many positive ways. Well here’s another bunch from Glasgow that fuck me up in so many wonderful ways. I cannot actually describe how much I am loving the 2 tunes that they sent me this evening. I had heard one of the tracks on Glasgowpodcart, a wonderful little pod cast based in Glasgow and run by an exceptionally lovely bunch of people. The first moment I heard this tune I knew this band were for me. I am quite frankly surprised not to have read about them on these pages before now – I have checked and see no record of any reviews of the band either on record or live to date. Anyways, they are releasing their eponymous debut album on 1st July.  Neither of the tunes I am about to post are on the album. In fact, the guys told me themselves that they think everything on the album is better than these 2 tracks – which is pretty impressive if you ask me!   And they are making waves. Already being touted as the next big guitar band to come out of Glasgow they have drawn the obvious comparisons to the Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit. Personally, bar a strong Glasgow accent, I don’t hear it. There is something more intricate about this band. Just something more melodic, atmospheric. I am excited. I get excited about a lot of Scottish bands, but this album is going to be bought the day it comes out, it’s going to be played until my ears can’t take anymore and I am going to get them at Trampoline as soon as I can - as long as they want to play of course! Great stuff from a band with the potential to do great things in the second half of 2009. Lets hope they do.

Couldn’t agree more. They seem to squeeze all the dynamics of post-rock into tight songs that are, at times, bursting at the seams with emotion. The album is an immense thing and I hope they become huge.
You get excited about when the microwave goes ‘ping’!
Dylan, thats clearly not fair. Everyone gets excited when a microwave goes ping it is one of the most exciting sounds known to man.
if there will be fireworks were on my stereo when the microwave went ping i’d have to go clean myself up.
Christ, these songs are amazing.
The lyricist here certainly has a nice turn of phrase; significantly better than most of the music like this that does up sixth-form poetry as existentialist realism.
There are a couple of found sounds spicing up the mix, too, which helps to bring it to life.
So yeah – intriguing..
It’s actually a bit of a shame that most microwaves don’t go ‘ping’ nowadays.
That kind of distracted, slightly bored ‘eep – eep – eep’ noise they make now is much less inspirational.
dylan. what you on about?
You know..
When microwaves used to go ‘ping’ with a little bell inside somewhere, it was an exciting, triumphant little announcement. Like the microwave was saying “Yay! I made your food hot! Brilliant! Come and get stuck in, quick!”
Nowadays, though, when they just go ‘eep – eep – eep’, it’s like the microwave doesn’t really care, and is just saying “Yeah… whatever. Your food’s hot. Come and get it if you like. I don’t care if it goes cold to be honest. It looks minging anyway, whatever it is.”
Mine still goes ping
Your microwave cares, Dav.
Look after it, and it will look after you.
…..shut the fuck up
love.
Ah, Chutters the happy fairy has paid us a visit… Sprinkling joy around like confetti and draping the tree of love with the tinsel of good humour.
Always such a delight!
halina, they are magic. thanks to you, sean and ally for introducing me to their music. lovely stuff. more i’ve found from you guys on the way up later this week.
these songs are lovely……can’t wait to hear more!
i dont get it.
What don’t you get?
im just not really feeling this band. ill give it a better listen when i get home but its not doing anything for me which is strange cos i love all the bands everyone is comparing them to.
Never really felt much love for Twilight Sad… But not really hearing too many similarities here either.
This is gorgeous!!!
I knew someone whose door bell would ring when her microwave was finished. No one understood why. That’ll leave you sterile.
Also this really is wonderful music.
They are a great band, had a sneak preview of the album and it’s truly immense, already in my top five of the year so far. Can’t believe a label like Fat Cat hasn’t signed them yet.
Plus, my microwave goes ping.
lord, White Noise is one of those deep deep aural delights that makes me wish I had never left Glasgow………utterly beautiful and heart string tugging
I have never had a microwave……….
That Foreign Thoughts song is brilliant. Lovely guitars and a nice sense of urgency to the singing.
White Noise is very nice too. I’m not quite so keen on the vocals on it.
I’ll definitely be looking to hear more.
yeah, these songs are great. and not even good enough for their album. bring it on i say!
Awesome band! I’ve heard the album – Foreign Thoughts is on it but White Noise on the TV isn’t. I think they were posting out another song called Talking Backwards for free which isn’t on the album. Still, great band and the album is truly immense!
My microwave goes *ping* – get it round ye’s.
[...] who follow songbytoad will know that during my recent 2 week stint over there I posted about these fellows. They had come to my attention because of the lovely people over at Glasgowpodcart who played them [...]
