In the context of the whole album there’s not that much, C&B. I chose a more extreme song, of which there are only a couple, just to illustrate the point I was making about the mood swings of the album, but generally it’s only that full-on a minority of the time.

i like it – reminds me of sunset rubdown, frog eyes (a lot) destroyer and other similar canuck bands (which i also like) – i therefore must plead guilty to a taste for vocal theatrics deployed just for the sake of the sounds (i also like animal collective of course)

Mmmm, that really works for me. Obviously the first one is particularly off its nut, but both seem quite striking yet listenable. His voice seems to swoop on just the right side of irritating, though it does veer a bit towards Jeff Buckley at times. If I heard these on my kitchen radio, I’d let my daal get slightly burnt in order to listen.

I suppose my only gripe is that there’s not much of an emotional pull for me . Maybe it’s the mood swings as you say, but it left me more admiring it than adoring it.- the swoops aren’t big enough to give you that buzz, and the quieter bits seem more carefree and playful than heart tugging. But that’s okay, I reckon at the right moment it’d be just what I needed, and that’s more or less what I buy music for anyway.
