Vote for Meursault and Withered Hand!
Yes indeed, I don’t care about your actual opinions, all I want you to do is vote for my friends, thank you very much.
It is time for the Contrast Podcast‘s annual Festive Fifty vote, and you have until the end of Monday to get your votes in, and there are a couple of local gentlemen who you might want to assist in scoring as highly as possible: Withered Hand and Meursault, both of whom are nominated more than once.
Music bloggers from around the world have nominated songs, from which Tim has created a shortlist, which I am including below the jump because it’s rather long. All you have to do is read the list, pick your top ten in order and email them to Tim before the end of tomorrow, Monday 23rd December at: contrast.podcast *at* gmail.com
In case you don’t know any of the songs in question, Tim’s also put together a handy player so you can have a listen, which can be found here. Read the rest of the post for the full list of songs, and please do vote.

Ah … this explains a lot
Vote, beeyatch!
there’s my vote for lily allen. sorted.
Cogstar, you might have someone to relieve you of your duties.
Anyone who votes for the Allen or U2 or the fucking woeful XX is instantly barred from reading the site.
do i have to correct you all the time!!!!
The XX are far from woeful!
the other two are shite right enough!
Poor old Chutters.
i heard it was poor old Matthew last Friday!
I would have fought for your honour pal!
So would I if people hadn’t decided that the one not actually doing any hitting yet was the one who needed to be restrained.
Believe me, not getting the chance to fucking swing for the cunt was by far the most frustrating thing about the whole incident.
I let the kids have ONE vote. it doesn’t make me a bad person.
If someone else starts on you, you should always be given the chance to get a couple of swings in before anyone breaks up the scrap.
Prefereably while one of your mates stamps on the side of the other guy’s knee to make sure the fucker goes down.
hmmmm
Did the champ mananger debate get out of hand? tsk tsk.
My bet is someone said ‘Meersalt’
Matthew’s enthusiastic shushing habit during delicate folk finally hit long tail distribution paydirt in the form of a retaliatory headbutt.
Well will the Folk Music rioting end?
I really don’t get the whole XX phenomena. It bemuses me.
Me too. I just find them completely lifeless and bland and utterly unexceptional. I can’t even hate it, I probably wouldn’t recognise them if they were on the radio and will put money to them vanishing into the ether post haste. And rightly so.
ssshhhhhhh!
Couldn’t have said it better myself! I’d been hearing people going on about them all over the place and when I sampled a few tracks I was all ‘huh? this is what people have been raving about?’
Bland is the perfect description.
Will be interesting to see how they rate in the FF.
i think that The XX make music that is low key, beautiful and heartfelt.
It is is irrelevant if they disappear into the either.
Opinions are shite, i played a Few Kind Words (by Meursault, if you didn’t know) to a few pals the other weekend (i was trying to get them to go and see them at the Newcastle gig) and the cheeky fuckers said that it was just bleepy bleepy shite!
i nearly ripped their faces off!
They are just wrong, simple as that. It’s something they are going to have to learn to accept.
i might defriend them
Aren’t The XX just this season’s Black Kids?
That punky-looking lot who sing about girls falling over like dominoes will probably pick up the Black Kids’ flash-in-the-pan baton from The XX in a week or two, and then they too will vanish from our collective conciousness and be back manning the checkouts at Tesco’s before Lent begins.
That is seriously is the first time I’ve heard anyone say they don’t like A Few Kind Words. Geordies are weird.
A bit late on this post, but vote I did and I was rewarded. I will be introducing a track from your worthy gentlemen in Meursault for the Festive Fifty. Shit they had 4 tracks to choose from, so hopefully there is at least one another on the list as well!
I swear if the XX place higher than Meursault, I just might not forgive the recording industry in general.
Just sayin.
S.
Hmm, I don’t think I have a song yet. Tim, you bastard!
