Toadcast #100 – Shenandoah Davis Toad Session

Shenandoah Davis plays the piano, and needless to say, we don’t just happen to have one in the house.  So given she was on a Summer tour of Europe, and given we’d invited her to Edinburgh to record a Toad Session we needed a Plan B.  That Plan B came in the form of Penicuik Town Hall.  Our friend Ben comes from Penicuik and his dad was able to secure three hours in the Town Hall for us to rock up in the Toad Van, unpack like some sort of alcoholic SWAT team, record our session, and bugger off before we were chased off.

Fortunately it has all worked out extremely well, with the usual videos below to be watched, or alternatively you can find them on the Song, by Toad page at either Vimeo or YouTube.  As you probably know, we always make individual videos of the songs and then an overall video of the whole day – sort of like Jools Holland, but with more gin and far less boogie-woogie piano.

The excellent photos were taken by Dylan from Blueback Hotrod and Fiona Buckle, and the main set can be found on the Song, by Toad Flickr page, with Dylan’s full set available on his own site.  As ever the session tracks are all freely downloadable and pass-roundable, and the podcast tracklist can be found at the bottom of the page.  Enjoy!

14 witty ripostes to Toadcast #100 – Shenandoah Davis Toad Session

  1. Matthew

I forgot how incredibly nervous I was when I helped with this. Sorry.

Turned out really well though. As ever, Neil’s done a fantastic job of the sound.

  2. Matthew Young

Your filming was really good actually, Matthew – I used loads of it. The only issue was that you broke up the interview footage into lots of little bits which made a bit of a pain to line up – it didn’t make the footage itself any less good though.

  3. Campfires & Battlefields

I love the look on her face as she and Dylan share eggs. It’s like she’s wondering whether this is some sort of mating ritual in Scotland; “if I eat it, will I be married”?

  4. Matthew Young

That moment is great – not only the look of mingled fear and horror on her face, but also the lyric as the scene fades out: “The worst is oveeerr!”

  5. Lee

Wow. Hello, Broken Arrow maybe coming out of their shell after this??

Ha, but seriously, this is great. She’s awesome. :)

  6. Dylan

It was just a pickled egg.

One cannot be expected to travel the world without ommersing oneself in various cultures one will stumble across.

  7. Matthew Young

Pickled eggs and even the most tortured concept of the word ‘culture’ are about as utterly unrelated as any two concepts can be.

    Ommersed or otherwise.

  8. Madcow

As well as the joy of seeing Toad’s trampy beardy face on these video clips the gods smiled on me last night as I squinted at his countenance crossing Charlotte Square at 1642 hours. As the car approached I was initially doubtful as to whether or not this was indeed, THE Toad, or just some impostor. The reason for my doubt was the lack of tramp beard. As the car silently rounded the corner I got a full on look at this possible doppelganger. Imagine my enflamed passion when I joyfully announced “It’s that FUCKING TOAD AGAIN!”. Neck strained round the seat of the car I struggled to keep him in view as he disappeared into the distance.

  9. Bart

Matthew, I think you should definitely consider changing the name of your blog to Song by Trampy Beardy Face.

I’ve checked and the domain still seems to be available….

  10. Matthew Young

    Surprisingly.

How about Song by Deranged Stalking Internet Looney? Then Madcow can write it.

  11. Madcow

Why are you everywhere I look? Are you a frakking cylon?

  12. Dylan

    Who’s stalking who here anyway?

    Weirdos, the pair of you.

  13. Wirralgirl

Nest time you use Penicuik Town Hall, let me know and I’ll bring cakes :-D

  14. Wirralgirl

    *Next* even….
