The Kays Lavelle – Be Still This Gentle Morning
[Welcome back to the first Sunday Supplement of 2010, with Euan from the Steinberg Principle, amongst other things, returning to his regular slot. Next week will see the return of Campfires and Battlefields]
So I might as well us this blog as the place to announce that The Kays Lavelle’s debut album entitled ‘Be Still This Gentle Morning’ will be released through Wiseblood Industries on 17th May this year. Or that is the intended release date. It may get pushed back, but we are definitely hoping to stick to our targets and make it happen. Anyways, lead of single ‘The Hours’ is now ready to go and attached to this article. It will be a free digital download on the Wiseblood site shortly. Two album launches are planned for 8th and 9th May, keep an eye out on my blog and the Kays lovely new MySpace page for more information about this. In the meantime, hope you enjoy ‘the hours’ which was recorded by Neil Pennycook of Meursault and mixed by Alex Fenton (Fentek Audio).

Wow. I like that song a lot. Loads of tension, huge heart-beat drums, lovely washes of cymbals and cello, “don’t breathe,” “something’s got to break, something’s got to change,” and then it does. Those backing vox that come in at 4:50 are really well-judged, and then the cello, piano and banjo (or is it a mandolin?) bring us home. “Your heart is safe.” Top notch.
Gotta love a six-and-a-half minute opening single.
The who?
Be what?
Think I’ll be giving this a miss!
I’m really looking forward to the debut, Euan. Been listening to this song loads ever since you sent it to me!
Never seen you guys live before, so also looking forward to the launch. Great stuff.
great song man. Those drums half way through, especially the toms at the end are MEGA! looking forward to hearing more now.
Sounds like Mumford & Sons to me.
Sounds like sex to me.
Eww!
Dylan, I can assure you we sound nothing like Frightened Rabbit.
Sounds great to me…
Bet you wish you did though, Euan
That’s quite a harsh comment really. Says a lot.
i might have heard this a little while ago…..
….i like it, kinda Sparklehorse like…..and i like how it builds up to a plateau then calms back down to the end lovely.
…tho i’m not 100% sold on the 1980’s sounding toms going on in there!
but it’s enough to whet my appetite…..
Euan it is what is known as a joke, based around Frabbit being really rather famous.
By our standards, anyway.
oh will you two girls shut it!
one stop being so sensitive
the other stop being nasty
Dylan don’t you even bother with you thing you call humour
By humour you mean this, right, Chutters?
I wasn’t being sensitive. I laughed when I read Matthew’s comment then responded with some humour of my own. As per usual the internet translates humour only when Bart delivers it.
Or me.
Actually, how the fuck does he do that? Is Bart the only person on the whole fucking internet who has mastered the art of sarcastically raising eyebrow in Garamond 12pt?
Maybe it’s the simple fact that Bart is a funny guy and you lot aren’t!
No Chutters, that’s definitely not it.
Did Bart not shave his beard off though? Fail.
Never trust a man with no beard.
