Toadcast #129 – The Housecast
Housecast? Well, yes. One of the things I have been trying to do since I left my grown up job is get our house vaguely under control. I have mananged to get the boxes of albums out of the hallway and into the office now, but there is still all manner of paperwork and assorted other shit all over the place.
Also, my folks are visiting at the end of next week, and you know what that means: the famous Mother-in-Law Clean. Mrs. Toad isn’t exactly a domesticated young lady, but she will be setting about the house with a bucket of bleach and a million fistfuls of wire wool over the course of the next few days I would imagine.
I, on the other hand, just have to destroy the ropey old oven in the back garden with a pick axe. Sometimes it rocks to get the man jobs!

I like the red and white.
Oh yeah, I downloaded the Bottle of Evil album. It’s amazing.
How old is that photo of your living room?
Four years or so.
Why do you tease? This one’s got a brutal backstory, but I’m not going to tell you useless bastards. Nice. So does that mean it was something anal?
Someone nicked your TV? Like a burglary? Shit fucked up.
That Warm Ghost song is dizzying. In a good way. And Richard Hawley should be worshiped as a god. People should keep little statues of him on their dashboards. That song is like a brooding, British “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”
There are a few really good wreck songs knocking around actually. Sir Patrick Spens is one of my favourites, although I have heard bad versions of it. James Yorkston’s is really good.
I liked the evil bottle tune too. Will need to get that now.
Did you imply a new direction in terms of the music you write and talk about? Well I like to hear about Scottish bands from you, as well as other stuff, but I hope that you retain the local element in the future.
No, no Peej, no change in direction at all. Just saying that the site has never been as Scottish-focussed as a lot of the newer blogs now are, that’s all.
Bottle Of Evil’s album is pretty amazing…. and its out on Amazon MP3 now for £4.99 too (PLUG PLUG)
Can’t wait for Yusuf’s album
If you’re going to plug our stuff in the same comment I can hardly complain about you plugging someone else’s too! And in any case, yes, it’s a really good album. I’ll review it this week I think.
I feel less dirty now!
On a completely related topic, any idea when Mr Azak’s album will be released?
Yep, we are looking at the tail end of September at the moment.
I know that picture is 4 years old so I hope you have a better TV by now. I ashamedly didnt tv spot when I was last there. CRT is old skool, gramps. Unless you are going to be playing Silent Scope on the old xbox……
We had a better TV until some fucker broke into the house the other day and nicked the bastard thing!
Say whaaaaa???? I had no idea you were broken into! BASTARDS! Toad Manor needs some hi-tech security. I’m talking machete-weilding robots and high power laser-webs that chop you into little pieces. If only this were possible….*sigh*
Hope the insurance is alright?
I’m sure the thief will return it after the World Cup Final.
Ach it’s fine, they never nicked anything really useful – just the telly, Wii console and DVD player, none of which we really used much.
Yeah – the Wii does tend to sit around unused in most peoples houses. Dvd players – who would nick one of them? You can get perfectly serviceable DVD players for about 30 quid. Morons. Christ – you can get a decent blu ray player for a hundred squids. I hate thieves. But especially stupid ones. Surely you had much more valuable musical things than that lying around? I guess we should be thankful they were truly stupid, rat-faced, mono-browed cretins…..
The DVD player really did make me shake my head. Still, just glad they pinched as little as they did and didn’t make much mess.
I just popped by to say how much I’ve been enjoying the podcasts recently – quite a few more upbeat tunes which I appreciate.
Oh and your living room photo looks so much like the one I had on London Street it’s a little scary. We even had the same looking tv in that corner…
Cheers Tim. The popularity has been up massively in the last few months, and I am not entirely sure what’s done it, but it’s been nice.
I saw this, and thought of this:

[...] Toadcast #129: A playlist of songs by artists ranging from Perfume Genius and Cate Le Bon to Richard Hawley and Communist Daughter. Fun, really. [...]
I liked the contemplation about football. I like how you talk about non-music and/or personal stuff. You are really pleasant to listen to, and it fits the music, too.
Why thank you. I am not sure I could manage an hour of focussed, professional chatter really, so it has to be that way!
