Toadcast #133 – The Tapecast
This is called the Tapecast because last night, for the first time in about ten years, I made a mixtape. Â Because of the van having a tape player there is actually a point to making these bloody things now, so we got hammered and listened to records all night (again), only this time I recorded them all onto a C-90!
There is something so stupidly fascinating about making tapes in the first place, but there is certainly something surreal in resurrecting what genuinely was dead technology. Â It is far from easy to actually buy blank tapes these days. Â I ended up recording over a shite old one I had to hand, and there is only a limited supply of ones hanging around which I would be happy to tape over.
It was bloody fun though, so I think it might well happen again!
Oh, and as I am now hosting these podcasts on Mixcloud as well, I have a new streaming widget thingy. Â Mixcloud are PRS registered, which means the artists get money when you listen using their doo-dah, which is something we should all think about. Â I am not convinced about doubling up the post images so I may have to give a bit more consideration to how to integrate it into the page, but there it is anyway for the time being.

Kate Bush is awesome.
That is all.
Ahmed speaks the truth.
Ahmed? That might catch on!
That Small Town Boredom song is really lovely. Gloomy, but lovely. And then Wuthering Heights no less. Apparently that song requires such vocal power and control that it is almost impossible to cover. About five years ago the Decemberists played it at a gig here in D.C. with Petra Haden singing (she’s that lass who did the a cappella version of The Who Sell Out), and it’s pretty good, but no one has ever had pipes like Kate Bush.
used to record all the time on cassettes. Have started again recently. I find that c90′S cassettes turn up still new in charity shops. And pound shops. I preferred c60′s but they very hard to find. Is that interesting?
It is. Charity shops, eh? Well there’s more than enough of ‘em round here.
BTW is the invite still open to bring myself up over to yours? Did you get my facebook msg? Ha! Probably not
Invite certainly still open. We can have a seven months late album launch house gig!
I just realised I never got a copy of the Trips and Falls album. Gimme.
And I haven’t listened to Small Town Boredom in ages. So good.
I forgot about coming through.. oops. Shall I come through this week and help?
Yes, if you possibly can on Monday and Tuesday that would be awesome.
Facebook!!!
Um, er, yeah. Point taken.
i thought you didn’t like Small Town Boredom?
Honestly, Chutters, so did I. But after some wine and a nice meal hearing them on vinyl whilst slouched on the sofa in our living room very much did the trick.
that good to hear, and the new stuff is fucking awesome!

in fact it’s not hard at all to find new ones!!!
Three-Post Mentalism! All the more so for pointing out that I’m a lazy sod, although I was looking in physical shops, albeit not very hard.
I think there will definitely be more tapes in the offing. Particularly if, as will be the case, I get to sit at my desk and make covers for them, all the time pretending that it’s ‘work’!
Tape schmape!
Thanks for the pointer about Mixcloud, Matthew. It’s definitely worth thinking about.
As for tapes, I always preferred the C90s myself – could get most LPs on one side. In fact I think I started a series of ‘songs from LPs cut off by C90s’ and forgot about it!
Hada almost forgotten I had a tape player in the car until Kid Canaveral brought out their first cassette single and David said that he had one in his car and thought most people probably would!
