Toad and Ruth Back on Fresh Air Tonight

So, after several weeks of half of us being there, or me being in bloody Aberdeen doing launch nights and so on, Ruth and I are finally reunited on the internetwaves of Edinburgh’s student radio station at long last.  Just in time, I believe, for the last show of the term.

I assume there will be plenty of catching up to do, and I have plenty of new music for Ruth to scoff at, so it should all be good, festive fun.  I may even bring in a couple of Christmas son… no, fuck that, that would be awful.  Just one, maybe.

Click here to listen – live from 8pm UK time.

If you have any trouble with the player on the Fresh Air site, just pause and un-pause it and that should do the trick.  Alternatively, you can stream it through iTunes, where it is listed in the college radio category.  We’ll be updating the tracklisting live as we go along, so feel free to jump into the comments and make smart-arsed remarks – like you ever need any encouragement anyway.

1. Au Revoir Simone – Fallen Snow (FOUND’s Broken Lock Refit)
2. Anthony & The Johnstons with Bjork – Fletta
3. Phosphorescent – A Picture of Our Torn Up Praise
4. The Maladies of Bella Fontaine – Longsocks

Could you perhaps give us a wee clue to what yer number one album of the year is old chap?

    Ian from Fairmilehead.

Love that Antony & Bjork track which is likely to make an appearance in my festive 50. Oh, and I like that Maladies of Bella Fontaine, will try and see if I can get that on eMusic…

Ian – Songdog, The National, Micah P Hinson, Sam Amidon, Broken Records, Perfume Genius, and any number of Song, by Toad Records releases of course!

Ed – Trying to get them up for a gig in February or March.

  6. avatar

Oh, Is This Music? don’t pay their writers either…but given the opportunities it’s given me, I’m not complaining, really…

  7. avatar

    I think Grandaddy are cool….

  8. avatar

I do…never saw them live, Sophtware Slump was my favourite album, IMHO.

  9. avatar

Under the Western Freeway and Sumday are both really brilliant as well.

  10. Ah, I would have man, but I just got that comment now, after I got home. :(

  11. avatar

Me neither, I was too young to get into the venues they played last time they were in Scotland :(

‘Under the Western Freewa’y and ‘Sophtware Slump’ are two of my favourite albums of all time. Their EP ‘Signal to Snow Ratio’ is absolutely fantastic, all their EPs are braw. So yes, to me good=cool, I suppose!

Like yr christmas associations music. Re: Leonard Cohen, sometimes I wish he would re-record the songs on ‘I’m Your Man’ and ‘various Positions’ in the style of those early albums, because the production on those albums is horrible!

FWIY have finally posted my Yusuf album on the blog.

Ian – I’ve only ever seen them in Cambridge and it was bloody great. All the albums being reissued on vinyl soon too, which is BRILLIANT NEWS. Also expensive news. But brilliant news nonetheless.

Ed – Superb, thanks! And yes, I regress to rich, deep, morose music the darker and colder it gets. And I’m not sorry at all!

    P.S.: Matthew, you’re shit.
