Live in Edinburgh This Week – 27th June 2011

I can think of a couple of things going on this week based on my Facebook events calendar, but feel free to fill in the gaps in the comments section to promote anything happening you’d like to give a big “up” to. Particularly if you think Matthew wouldn’t like it.

Monday 27th June – Pilrig St. Paul’s Church Hall – Woodpigeon, Eagleowl and Rob St. John

I’ll refrain from promoting this as watching the same band play three times with different lead singers, because it will be bloody brilliant. And as Mark Woodpigeon pointed out last night, they will all have completely different sounds

Thursday 30th June – The Wee Red Bar – The Last Battle & Friends

This should be a hell of a night, being as the Last Battle have an EP to launch and can count the likes of King Creosote and Loch Awe amongst their supporting friends. There may even be a surprise guest or four on the bill too, I can’t mention who, but this show will certainly be more than an excuse to only go out and get drunk that night.

Right! Over to you, fill the comments with your suggestions on where Edinburgh’s gig-going public can spend their cash this week!

Hmmm, who could it possibly be???

Darren Hayman, Gordon McIntyre from ballboy and Withered Hand are at Pilrig St Paul’s on Thursday. Half Man Half Biscuit are playing somewhere that night too.

Any Glasgow types that fancy seeing The Last battle but don’t want to go to Edinburgh to do so can see them with Loch Awe and The Second Hand Marching Band at Stereo on Friday. The guy putting that gig on is a dick though.

Friday at Sneaky Pete’s there’s Verse Metrics, RM Hubbert and I Build Collapsible Mountains, who are all terribly good.

There’s Edinburgh School For The Deaf & The Spook School at Henry’s Cellar Bar on Saturday. Matthew should like that, it’s a Toad gig.

I should probably have mentioned that Toad gig on Saturday, shouldn’t I?

I’m part of this year’s Oxjam team and we’ve got solo sets from Frightened Rabbit, I Build Collapsible Mountains and Trapped Mice at Gorgie Farm on Wednesday as our launch event. It’s currently sold out but if it’s sunny there will be more tickets available as we’ll have it outside. We’ll probably announce them through @EdinburghOxjam so follow us on twitter!

Yes Dylan, yes you fucking should.

Thursday should be awesome (and I’m DJing, too!).

Spook School are phenomenal, haven’t seen ‘em live yet but the tracks I have heard are great. Apparently they all do stand-up comedy, too.
