Toadcast #196 – PAWS Toad Session

The Toad Session I was probably most nervous about recording was Milk Maid, I think. It was arranged at the last minute, they are a full, four-piece rock band, their profile is riding relatively high at the moment and I’d never really recorded anything so loud in our house before.
As it was, it turned out pretty fucking well, if you ask me, so when PAWS came in I was confident enough that we’d get decent recordings, but I have to confess I was a little nervous about how we’d get away with the racket and the general lawlessness of their performances.
There were some changes to the team this time as well, as a lot of the usual suspects couldn’t make it. Wee Matthew was helping out on cameras again, and Rory from Broken Records was back for a second batch of filming. But we also managed to coax former ace Edinburgh gig photographer extraordinaire Nic Rue out of retirement to take the pictures, and Rory ‘brought at friend’ to help out with the filming. And his friend just happened to be Chris Park. Who just happens to be a serious professional. So if you’re wondering why this isn’t as shit as usual, that’s probably why.
As per usual, all the session mp3s are available to download for free, either below or in this zip file, we have videos of the songs and of the interview here, photos here, Nic’s slightly larger portfolio of pics here, and of course the interview podcast below, with the playlist at the bottom of the page. Enjoy. And pity our poor neighbours.

That was awesome.
Not too bad, eh? It’s hard for anything to beat the individual song videos though, particularly Winners Don’t Bleed.
I really LOVE this band. Great session.
Awesome mate, thanks very much. They might hopefully be playing our New Year’s house gig, but umm… well, it depends on how likely we all are to get arrested if they do!
Crikey
Bloody hell that was great! Ordered their split 7 with lady north but must get my hands on more of their stuff!!!
That was fucking amazing. I wish they’d stop fannying about with tapes and make a full album though. I remember seeing PAWS scrawled all over the toilets in Stereo a while back, always wondered what they sounded like.
Cogstar – crikey indeed!
CMGrigg – yep, their tapes are well worth getting your hands on, if they have any left, and the EP is really good as well.
Craig – an album would indeed be ace. I actually didn’t get round to seeing them for a while after first hearing about them either. I remember just thinking ‘ah yes, another ‘amazing’ Glasgow band – yawwwwn’. And then I saw them at Wide Days and realised what an idiot I was being!
Pretty good show, I liked what he said about needing to do what he does. You can get a taste for that after about the first 30 seconds.
Again, band makes buzzzzzzzzzz
Yeah, they’ve always impressed me like that – you know, a band who really want to be a band, if you know what I mean.
Does anyone else know where i can actually get some of their stuff, the band camp seems to have been closed. And unless I’m an idiot theres no obvious link on their {spits} Myspace.
I know what you mean .
I’m literally crying! and crying out as well at times. Speechless.
MY? SPACE? You visited The MySpaces? You’re a brave man, it must have been like exploring a ghost town in the dead of night with nothing but the severed arm of a former Arctic Monkey for protection.
Try their Big Cartel page.
I’ll be honest, it wasn’t that pleasant. I saw and did things that’ll come with me to the the grave! {shudders} Don’t make me go back there {sobs}
Cheers on the Big Cartel shout, vol. 3 bought!
May have to take a gamble on the L tees being moob friendly on pay day.
I have fallen foul of that with my own t-shirts recently. The very nice Meursault ones might be just a little too figure-hugging for a gentleman of my *cough* proportions to wear with any dignity.

Finally got around to catching this.
Great session and I like their DIY ways very much……the bad-ass tattoo and the fact they’re Melvins fans wins me automatically haha
I look forward to catching them live at some stage. All the best to them in their future.
This is exquisite!
I’m not sure about your choice of the word ‘exquisite’ exactly, but it was most certainly an awful lot of fun.
