Well, you know how I said that following your favourite bands on Twitter was a really good way to find the more interesting new band suggestions? Well it turns out that Facebook is just as good.
Said Speaks turned up in Woodpecker Wooliams‘ feed recently, and it took me a while to realise that it was Ben, who toured with Gemma on her last UK tour. This is the first I’ve heard of his own stuff, and it’s bloody ace.
Lo-fi gospel music is a nice combination, because it takes something stirringly beautiful and fucks it up beyond almost all recognition. On this EP, the final tune Pushing Bones is my favourite, largely due to that nasty synth drone which grates its way through the whole song. It reminds me a great deal of the awesome Animal Magic Tricks actually, who is also based down on the South Coast.
And I’ve called this an EP, but given you can’t actually purchase or download it at all, I doubt it’s anything so formal as an actual, proper release. It is three scrappy, rough, awesome tunes though and makes me highly interested to see what else Said Speaks might get up to.More: said speaks
