Toadcast #256 – The Seagullcast

posttag Another podcast from the South Coast, as I am down in Brighton again this weekend, visiting my parents.  My wee brother happens to be over visiting from the States as well, so we went to see Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday, which was rather fun, despite the rain.

Tonight there will be roast pork and gins and tonic, and then tomorrow we will walk into Brighton to see how good a job our distributors are doing at getting Song, by Toad Records releases into the music shops around these parts. It feels a bit sneaky, checking up on people like that, but it has to be done I suppose.

Anyhow, next week I am hoping to have a new Toad Session for you. About fucking time blah blah get on with it etc… I know, I know, but I promise I really am doing my best to get these edited and out for you – honest!

2 witty ripostes to Toadcast #256 – The Seagullcast

I thought that R.E.M. borrowed that Leonard Cohen melody for “Hope” from Up. So I looked it up on Wikipedia, and they did, in fact, give him partial writing credit for that song, but it was for similarities between “Hope” and “Suzanne”.

I’ve not listened to “Suzanne” and “Hey That’s No Way to Say Goodbye” back to back. But I recall hearing the similarities between “Suzanne” and “Hope” when I first heard “Suzanne”

…And further research on Wikipedia yields the “fact” that “Hey That’s No Way to Say Goodbye” was a b-side of “Suzanne”, but that may be a mistake because I can only find reference to it being the b-side to “So Long, Marianne”

Hope and Up in general are so very, very underrated. As is Leonard Cohen in some ways. People write him off as a tedious arch-miserablist, but I think he’s anything but. I don’t find his music miserable at all.
